Week 3- Feb 21, 23

Water and Its Forms

We will be discussing water this week- the water cycle as well as forms of matter and how we can both identify and change water's form. Water is unique to Earth (as of today but science is making new discoveries every day) and is a unique element in and of itself.
*In fact- a new water planet was just discovered by scientists that is remarkably similar to Earth but millions of miles away. So that last sentence should read "Water is unique to Earth in this solar system" though that can also change very soon.
Water is special because it can be three forms and still be considered the same basic element.
Science vocabulary discussed:
evaporation
condensation
matter
water
liquid
solid
ice
water vapor

First Week- Feb 7, 9

Hello All!

This week was a get to know you experiment. Because I plan on doing so many hands on examples I really needed to learn about the students, their needs and strengths, and ensure that the class would run smoothly by doing an easy test run.
We discussed famous scientists and had a brief introduction to different science topics on Tuesday. The students found out about a few of the overarching themes of science (Earth, Natural, Life and other). Students voted on their highest interest and I've been developing week "themes" that we can focus on through the rest of our sessions. We then discussed the steps of the Scientific Process which we will be focusing on and using for each experiment.
Scientific Process:
1. State the Question
2. Collect information/ State what you know
3. Form a Hypothesis
4. Run your Experiment
5. Make observations and Record Data
6. Discuss and Make a Conclusion

Welcome Note

Welcome Parents and Students!
I wanted to make a site that I could post the resources I've been using in class. Everything is made by me but some of the images are copy right and I post where I got them as often as I can.

When you are viewing a post there will be a quick introduction telling you what your student learned that day.
There will be a link to the presentation used that week, a quick list of the experiments done, any videos I show will be listed, science vocabulary we learned that week, and any resources I think might be useful I will also add at the end.

Then I will list links to the presentation I used in class. By clicking on a link you will be taken to a Google Doc share page where the document should show up. You can view it there on line or click on the Actions button and save it to your own computer.
Here's an example of the Google Doc and the Actions button- clicking on the image will make it larger.

Click on the Actions button to view options on how to save the file.
The presentation may be uploaded as a pdf file- which can still be viewed, saved and printed but you must click on the File button on the top, left of the screen instead. Like this:

Under the presentation link I will try to post any hand out I sent home or an image of the hand out. By clicking on the image it should enlarge and then you can print it or save it.

I'm going to do my best to keep up with the postings, but if you have any questions feel free to comment here or email me at miss.axworthy@gmail.com or vaxworthy@mrpk.org .

Please note: I will not post any specifying information about any student on this blog; this site is intended to keep all parents and family members informed and involved in the learning process.

I hope this is helpful.
Thank you,
Miss Axworthy (Miss A.)
